I got this book as a gift from a friend, and after reading it, I am convinced I must be her favorite person in the world, haha! It is a great read. It really captivated me. I read the whole thing on a road trip with my family, and lost all track of time, I was so engrossed in the story. It is fantastic, and I intend to pay this gift forward to others!
In Time tells the story of a young man's life, how he experienced loss and spends the rest of his life looking for his place and purpose in it. He encounters some wonderful characters and develops some amazing friendships along the way, each person contributing to his life and changing it for the better. The antagonist, as I understand it, is actually his perception of God. "God" appears early in his life as a mean, evil king in a dream, and this evil king haunts him for most of his life, finding happiness in his sorrow.
Dan's (main character)life isn't all bad, and this book was not written to be overall depressing. It is actually a heartwarming story of how he overcomes his own fears and adversity in his life. I fell in love with the characters, cared deeply about their lives and stories, and found the twists and turns in the story as gripping as if I were a character in the story myself. The book takes you on his whole journey, from his days as a young boy, until the present day, as he is an old man, telling the story to you, or some other unknown "son," to whom he refers often. It is written very effectively as a narrative; I felt like I was there, with him, sitting beside the fire, drinking cocoa and listening attentively to his tale.
Overall, I enthusiastically give this book five stars. I enjoyed every minute of reading it, and couldn't seem to put it down. I only wish it had been longer; I didn't want it to end!
I can see this book making a blockbuster, Oscar-winning film, and highly recommend it to anyone who wants a good, compelling, and heart-warming read. Erynn Michelle has started off her writing career very strongly; I look for more great things from her.
I found this book to be enticing right from the start. The character development just draws your in deeper the farther along in the book you read. I was completely lost in the world Erynn Michelle had created that I finished the book in a day. This is definitely a book I recommend to all my friends and anyone looking for a way to truly lose yourself in a book. She has mastered the art of story telling. This book will not disappoint.
